The Grade Course of Study for Mathematics is aligned with the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Principles and Standards for School Mathematics as well as the Ohio Department of Education Academic Content Standards for Mathematics.
St. Gertrude Math Faculty embrace the philosophy set forth in the introduction to this graded course of study:
"Mathematics not only involves concepts and skills but also problem solving and critical thinking. Mathematics helps one to appreciate the beauty found in nature and design. Patterns, measurement, algebra, geometry, data analysis and probability are taught in every grade from kindergarten to eight. Meeting these performance objectives will give the students of the Archdiocese the necessary mathematical foundation so that the mathematical superstructure might be built. Problem solving opportunities are included at all levels."
Seventh and Eighth grade students are placed in three math and algebra courses per grade, thereby meeting the needs of each learner.
We are currently using the following Mathematics textbooks:
McGraw Hill Mathematics Kindergarten through 5th Grade
